Today was the Lovely\nand Marvelous holiday, <\/strong>Valentine’s\nDay. <\/strong><\/em>Believe\nit or don’t, I was actually prepared for this in advance!! Even got\nmy \u201cGirlfriend\u201d card a couple weeks ago!! And yes, even though\nI’m married, I’m fortunate enough to be married to my Beautiful\nGirlfriend, whom I’ve been dating for 48\nyears as of this May 19!! Is that amazing or what?? And guess what?\n We still like each other! A lot even!! <\/strong><\/em>This\nis a very marvelous thing. We’re actually getting pretty good at\nthis sweetheart stuff. Some of our \u201csecrets\u201d to a long and happy\nrelationship are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. We\n\ttell each other \u201cI love you\u201d at least once a day. Usually more.\n\t<\/li>
  2. I\n\toften remind her that she’s the most beautiful woman in the\n\tuniverse, because it’s true (all other women are the second most\n\tbeautiful).\n\t<\/li>
  3. We\n\tkiss. Often. (I kissed a girl and I liked it.)\n\t<\/li>
  4. We\n\tmake regular use of the magic words Please and Thank You.\n\t<\/li>
  5. We\n\tare best friends and treat each other that way.\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Well\nthere are probably a few thousand more reasons but I’ll just quit\nthere. This year, she wanted to prevent me from spending $40 on\nflowers that are dead in less than a week. \u201cNo flowers this year,\nOK??\u201d she beseeched me over the weekend. So I found\na nice lily plant at the store with many buds, but no flowers\n<\/strong><\/em>(yet).\n After that, I went out to the woods with my chainsaw\nto bag the traditional Valentine Tree<\/strong><\/em>,\nthen Mom and I will set it up in the living room and decorate it with\nthe annual collection of Toilet Paper\nOrnaments, <\/strong><\/em>and the battery powered Monkey\nLights. <\/strong><\/em>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My\nlovely sweetheart loves to deck the halls for every holiday, and\nValentine’s Day is no exception. In addition to cupid knickknacks,\nvalentine’s bears, frogs, unicorns or whatever else she finds cute, \nthere are plaques with mooshy \u201cBe Mine\u201d sayings all over the\nhouse. When the kids were still at home, Valentine’s Day was very\nsimilar to Christmas in February. And of course Valentine\nToys and Sugarcard Plums<\/strong><\/em>were\ncarefully placed under the Valentine Tree\n<\/strong><\/em>and then the whole family held hands to sing the\nancient Valentide Carol:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In\nthe market, in the card store, I will find something so fine,\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That\nmy babe will want to smooch me, just because it’s Valentine’s.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Oh\nmy darlin’, oh my darlin’ oh my DAARRLIN’ Valentine,\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You\nsmell nice and have nice curvings, give me sugar, Valentine.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In\nthe bathroom, on the mirror, decorAAtions make me smile,\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Cuz\nmy baby puts ’em up there and they’ll stay there for awhile.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Oh\nmy darlin’, oh my darlin’, oh my DAARLIN’ Valentine,\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Please\ndon’t leave them up till Easter, yes I love you, Valentine.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Well OK maybe we didn’t really <\/strong><\/em>have\na Valentine’s tree… and maybe I just made up the song too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After\nall the jubilation, we all sit down for a traditional Valentine’s\nDinner <\/strong><\/em>of\nbarbequed spare ribs, taters, maybe some salad, and of course some\nfake bubbly (sparkling juice).   Dinner was followed by\nValentine\nbelching,<\/strong><\/em>\n<\/strong><\/em>general good\nconversation, and the exchange of Valentine\ngifts and cards.  <\/strong><\/em>\n  Following dinner was the traditional Valentine’s\nDay herding of the kids into their beds. <\/strong><\/em>\n<\/strong><\/em>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Nudge-nudge, wink-wink!! \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The kids have been out on their own for some time now,\nso it was just my Honey Pie and me having dinner. I splurged and\nbought some scallops and shrimp, and sauteed with them veggies and\nmushrooms that we had over rice. YUMMMM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Then we watched a very romantic biography of Edgar Allen Poe on PBS while enjoying fancy chocolate and sparkling juice. Well OK, maybe Edgar Allen Poe wasn’t so romantic. But my employer gives us Presidents Day off, so for this 3 day weekend I have some grandiose romance plans. It may be just a simple sign of affection, when I’ll jump out to greet her with my \u201cspecial pajamas\u201d when she least expects it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
